Your Soul Searching Must Do List
For the past five years, I have been on a mission to fill my soul with people, places and things that make me the happiest version of myself. I have made some major life changes that have contributed to my cup being filled, so to speak. I walked away from an unhappy marriage, cut ties with toxic people in my life, and started pursuing my passion of creating Work and Play With Jamie Joyce.
Recent events in my personal life have now more than ever made the saying “life’s too short” become my motto. My sister, who is my very best friend, was diagnosed with terminal stage IV ovarian cancer. This news shook me to my core and changed me forever. Experiencing this has given me a new perspective. Life is temporary. We are on this earth for a short period of time. Some of us are more fortunate than others. We have no say on when our time is up, but we can choose what we do with the time we do have. Take it from me, choose wisely! I am very happy to say I already have amazing memories and cherish the bond I have with my sister. I will never be ready to lose her, but at least I can say we spent our time together laughing, crying, talking, and fiercely loving each other.
In the spirit of living life to the fullest I am going to challenge you to create your own must do list. We all have nagging to-do lists that are never-ending and no fun! Check out my version of a must do list to fill your soul with happiness.
- Travel
At least twice a year go somewhere you’ve always wanted to go. This could be a two hour road trip to a remote cabin in the woods or a big Italy trip! Whatever your budget, make it work. See new places, experience new things, and make memories. - Take yourself on a date
Go to your favourite pub and enjoy a pint solo, or go on a hike and have a picnic. Whatever your thing, enjoy your own company. Take time to think and reflect. - Take a yoga class
You have not relaxed if you haven’t taken a yoga class. I recommend hot yoga. You will feel so rejuvenated and great afterwards. - Beach it
There is absolutely nothing like hearing the sounds of waves crashing on the shore. - Meditate
I’m going to be honest, this is on my list because I’ve not yet tried it. I will now! Make time once per day to clear your thoughts and focus on the energy around you. - Do something you have never done before
It doesn’t have to be extravagant to be amazing. Recently my fiancĂ©e and I went on the cutest date in the back of our van with a blanket. We parked by the river in the rain. We shared a bottle of wine, and yummy chocolates. It was so romantic. Not in to romance? Go bungee jumping haha. - Mantras
How can you ever be happy if you do not have happy thoughts? On a daily basis, say positive things to yourself. Ever hear of the power of positive thinking? Think positive happy thoughts and things will start to change. - Do something that scares you
Nothing good ever comes out of remaining in our comfort zone. Apply for that job. Tell the your best friend you are madly in love with them. Whatever scares you you should do it! I recently came out as a bisexual to my mother. I was terrified. But guess what I feel now? Relief. - Enjoy nature
Nothing feels better than getting outdoors and smelling fresh air. Hike, walk, kayak, picnic. - Read uplifting books
My suggestions would be:- Big Magic. This book inspired me to follow my passion and start Work and Play with Jamie Joyce.
- Girl, Wash Your Face. This book gave me courage to be vulnerable and imperfect.
- You Are a Badass. The title speaks for itself! I read this when I was feeling very low and depressed about the tough stuff in life. It made me dust myself off and keep chasing my dreams!
- Love yourself
Give yourself permission to cry if you need to. Laugh out loud. And take care of your body! Take time each day to exercise. Check out my 20 minute workout videos on YouTube.
You only get one life on this planet, so make sure you are doing what you are passionate about, and love yourself and others fiercely!
